On Sunday 29 April 2012, Jamia Al-Karam held a special launch ceremony for the Urdu translation of Tafsir al-Jilani written by al-Ghawth al-A’zam Shaykh Muhy al-Din ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani (d. 561 AH). The Urdu translation has been done by the learned scholar Mufti Abdul Rasool Mansoor al-Azhari from Redditch. The translation of the Qur’anic verses in this publication of Tafsir al-Jilani was by Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada.

 

Mufti Abdul Rasool Mansoor arrived at Jamia Al-Karam accompanied by Sahibzada Misbahul Malik Luqmani and Hafiz Muneer Al-Azhari.

 

Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani (ra) is the famous 6th century scholar and saint, respected by all Muslims. He was from the lineage of both Imam Hasan and Imam Husayn, the revered grandsons of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

 

The manuscript of his original commentary of the Qur’an was only recently found in a library museum in Turkey. Subsequently it was published in Arabic after nearly nine centuries. Two volumes of that Tafsir have been translated into Urdu by Mufti Abdul Rasool Mansoor.

 

In his address Mufti Abdul Rasool Mansoor spoke of his honour in translating this important work and then he gifted this work to Shaykh Pirzada commenting that Shaykh Pirzada’s translation of the Qur’an was assessed to be the most up to date and befitting translation to the contemporary world and hence was selected to be part of this Urdu publication of Tafsir al-Jilani. Shaykh Pirzada congratulated Mufti Abdul Rasool Mansoor on this scholarly endeavour and expressed his honour in having his translation of the Qur’an be part of his translation of the Tafsir of ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani (ra). Shaykh Pirzada presented his Tarjamah Imdad al-Qur’an to all the guests.

 

Following dinner in the Zia-ul-Ummat Suite, the guests departed. Although nine centuries have passed and the original manuscript has been hidden from public sight; however Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani (ra) continues to touch the lives of many today and with the completion of this work will, in sha’ Allah, continue to do so.
