Jamia Al-Karam is included in delegation’s tour of leading academic institutions around the world

On Tuesday 26 June 2012, a delegation comprising thirty-nine top merit students from Pakistan formally visited the institution of Jamia Al-Karam and met with its Founder and Principal, Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada as well as Shaykh Muhammad Amin al-Hasanat Shah al-Qurashi.
The thirty-nine students are those who gained top positions in the national examinations of secondary Matriculation, FA/FSc and the bachelor BA/BSc levels and come from various provinces of Pakistan including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. In an initiative launched last year by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, these merit students are on a journey sponsored by the Punjab Government touring the top universities of the world including Oxford, Cambridge and Heidelberg as well as visiting numerous countries including the United Kingdom, Germany and Turkey.

An important part of their lengthy tour was the eagerly anticipated visit to Jamia Al-Karam as a leading example of a successful model of religious and secular sciences and emphasis situated in the Western world. Whilst visiting major world universities in different countries, the tour and presentations of Jamia Al-Karam were both enlightening and inspiring for these high calibre individuals which broadened their understanding and grasp of how to facilitate the realms of tradition within the parameters of modernity.

During their visit, Jamia Al-Karam and WAAG UK jointly organised a formal programme in their honour and amongst the dignitaries present were:
  • Shaykh Muhammad Amin al-Hasanat Shah al-Qurashi (Principal of the DMG Education Network of Pakistan)
  • Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada (Founder of Jamia Al-Karam and President of WAAG UK)
  • Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman (Vice Chancellor of Government College University, Lahore, Pakistan)
  • Mr Shahid Iqbal (Delegate of the Chief Minister of Punjab)
The Vice Principal of Jamia Al-Karam and Vice President of WAAG UK, Bakhtyar H Pirzada al-Azhari, delivered a detailed presentation on the history, vision and scope of Jamia Al-Karam, the approach and legacy of the Grand ‘Allama, Justice Shaykh Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari (ra) as well as the heritage and significance of Al-Azhar University and the World Association for Al-Azhar Graduates.
Some of the students present also spoke of their experience and inspiration by coming to Jamia Al-Karam and their appreciation to WAAG UK for hosting them.
Leading this international delegation was the Vice Chancellor of Government College University of Lahore, Pakistan, Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, who also led the delegation of 2011 to Jamia Al-Karam. In his speech, he commented on the huge importance and significance of the visit of Jamia Al-Karam in this tour of world universities for it helps these important students to get a better understanding of their faith and its contemporary application by way of building successful bridges between sciences and communities.
Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada formally welcomed the students and the delegation and provided great words of advice for these students in how to successfully pursue their goals and dreams. Shaykh Muhammad Amin al-Hasanat Shah al-Qurashi offered his gratitude to the Government of Punjab and Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on this positive step and initiative of facilitating these important students in seeing other parts of the world and leading educational establishments and universities so that they can broaden their horizons and play an important and beneficial role in the development of their own country.
Following the programme and dinner, a light tea session was organised in which members of the Al-Ni’mah Student Nasheed Group of Jamia Al-Karam performed numerous nasheeds in honour and praise of the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) before which the delegation departed for London and onwards on their very informative tour. Along with other gifts, the students received copies of Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada’s acclaimed book ‘Reflections; a quest for answers to today’s questions’.
