GCSE league tables released, Al-Karam School in top ten Print E-mail
Thursday, 23 January 2014

Jamia Al-KaramStatement by the Vice-Principal, Bakhtyar H Pirzada al-Azhari:

"In spite of the controversy surrounding the GCSE League Tables released today in relation to the inclusion or exclusion of the IGCSEs adopted by some schools around the country as opposed to the GCSEs and the consequent effect this has had on the ranking of schools in certain areas, nonetheless, the tables do provide some form of indication as to the performance of schools and their comparison.

At Al-Karam Secondary School, we are pleased with our result listed in the league tables of 73% of pupils achieving grades A*-C in 5+ GCSE subjects including English and Maths. By this ranking, Al-Karam Secondary School is placed in 7th position in the county of Nottinghamshire which consists of 81 schools. The result has ensured that the school is above the Local Authority average of 52.4% and the England average of 52.8% and remains within the top ten schools in the county.

We pay tribute to the relentless commitment and dedication of our team of teachers and tutors lead by the Headteacher, Mr Mushtaq Hussain, as well as the hard work and efforts of our pupils and the support of their parents. Despite our challenging circumstances, financial and otherwise, the ethos developed by our staff and the environment supplemented by our pupils are important factors in setting the direction as well as the targets and aims for the individual pupil and the overall school community as a whole.

We once again congratulate all our pupils who achieved great results in their GCSEs of 2013 in particular the top three position holders: Usamah Hussain (3 A*, 6 A, 1 B), Zeanab Hussain (5 A, 3 B, 1 C, 1 E) and Nizami Rahman (4 A, 5 B)."
