SHAYKH PIRZADA SADDENED AT PASSING AWAY OF SHAYKH NAZIM AL-HAQQANI – A TOWERING MUSLIM OF SPIRITUAL AND GLOBAL STATURE

ImageEarlier this morning, 7 May 2014, the news was confirmed of the passing away of Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani in Cyprus. Upon hearing of this news, Shaykh Pirzada was deeply saddened and uttered the words, ‘inna lillahi wa inna ‘ilayhi raji’un’. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim died at the age of 92 years and was a towering and influential Muslim with profound spiritual standing and global stature. His contributions to Islam, the Muslims and the people in the East and West are immense. Thousands found the light of guidance through his efforts and the young and old, the rich and poor, the laymen as well as political elites, all found inspiration through him. His departure from this world is a loss for the Ummah and reflects the statement, “The death of the scholar is the death of the world.”

Shaykh Pirzada had met and sat in the company of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim in the late nineties after Jamia Al-Karam had moved to Retford in Nottinghamshire from Milton Keynes. Shaykh Pirzada travelled to Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, where Mawlana Shaykh Nazim was residing at the residence of some of his followers. It was a blessed moment where Shaykh Pirzada had the opportunity to sit, meet and converse with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. The moments are remembered as being full of blessing, spirituality, prayers and pleasant humour.

Shaykh Pirzada has expressed his deep grief and sadness at the passing away of a great Muslim who became a symbol of Islam and spirituality as well as of guidance over the past half a century. Shaykh Pirzada has offered prayers for his high rank in Paradise and patience for the Ummah at coming to terms with this loss. He forwards his condolences to the family, followers and students of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and to Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and the representatives of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. May Allah bestow heavenly mercies on his grave and grant him a high rank in Paradise. Amin.
