Statement on the murder of Alan Henning – Our National Hero Print E-mail
Saturday, 04 October 2014

ImageJamia Al-Karam, its students, scholars and graduate Imams, as well as the wider British Muslim community, stand united in condemnation of the brutal and cowardice murder of our national hero, Alan Henning, at the hands of ISIL. All thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

The evil of ISIL knows no bounds with its unimaginable brutality, violence and terror, being committed under the disguise of a deliberate misinterpretation of the religion that belongs to 1.6 billion people around the world. The murder of Alan Henning is the latest proof of the merciless nature of their humanity. For the timing to coincide with the pilgrimage of Hajj and the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, their utter disregard for the religion they falsely claim is manifestly clear.

Alan Henning is a national hero who symbolised the greatness in human values of compassion and loving care for all people regardless of their background; he was a sincere, selfless and courageous individual. His murderers, on the other hand, are the exact opposite. As such, it will be Alan Henning who will become an inspiration for many in the future, and the barbaric criminals will eventually meet their own end.

Founder & Principal of Jamia Al-Karam, Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada, commented, “The murder of one soul according to Islam is equivalent to the murder of all humanity. I reiterate that Islam is a way of life that is of moderation. It is firmly opposed to any kind of extremism and radicalism, as well as violence, killing and terrorism. Any individual who moves away from this middle way towards the extreme, in thought or conduct, has moved away from Islam. The actions of ISIL are completely contrary to Islam.”

Shaykh Pirzada further reiterated to young British Muslims to learn their religion saying, “I call on you to hold on to the balanced principles of Islam and not to fall victim to the negative propaganda of extremists striving to sow the seeds of division and hatred, seeking recruits for their evil ideas and undermining the values of Islam.”

Vice-Principal of Jamia Al-Karam, Bakhtyar H Pirzada al-Azhari, said, “The existence of ISIL is a slur against humanity. The murder of Alan Henning is an attack on Britain, Islam and human dignity. We stand with the family of Alan Henning at this tragic time and offer our heartfelt condolences. As British Muslims mark this weekend with the festival of Eid, they do so in a state of mourning over the evil murder of our national hero.”

Jamia Al-Karam recently launched the timely publication of Shaykh Pirzada ‘I am a British Muslim; my rights and responsibilities’, which has quickly become a must have and a must read. It provides a unique and authoritative discourse for British Muslims in a world filled with confusion and propaganda.
